Hair help and tips please :)?

I'm wondering if any of you have any tried and tested techniques on how to get BIG hair, at the top of my head kind of thing, not too outrageous though, just something full of volume and bouncy...

Here are a couple of pictures to demonstrate what I mean -

Whenever I try and give my hair volume it just tends to go flat at the top and big at the sides... definately not the look I'm going for! lol.

Try large steam rollers on the top of your hair. Leave them in til they cool. Or better yet, the longer you leave them in the better the curl will stay. Don't touch it a lot after your done styling it, because your hands have natural oils on them which you are transporting to your hair every time you touch it. (causing it to go flat).

Another way would be to bend head down while blow drying the top (use a round brush).

One more: teasing it. Don't go overboard with this or you'll look like a punk rocker.

Hair that is slightly dirty is easier to style, so don't wash it beforehand.

If you want more fullness on top, ask a stylist to give you some layers around the crown of your head. Explain to her first that you want more volume up there.

There are products that will make your hair have more texture which will make it easier to "stand up". So, I would look into those also.

Well you could try a sea salt spray, and work you fingers through it.

Backcombing or backbrushing is how that look is acheived. First, a gel or mousse is combed through the hair, then it is set on large Velcro rollers and placed under a bonnet dryer for about an hour. When hair is dry, the bonnet is taken off and hair is allowed to cool for five to ten minutes. The rollers are taken out and each section of hair is backcombed or backbrushed at the scalp and arranged into the basic shape. A styling spray is sprayed at the scalp to lock in that backcombing and the rest of the hair is finger-styled and sprayed into place.

My suggestion for you is to go to a federally-approved beauty school in your area and the students there can teach you how to achieve this look and make it STAY!! Usually there are one or two teachers there that are INCREDIBLY picky about making the students learn how to backcomb the right way.

Set your hair in rollers that will give you root lift. spray your hair at the root with hairspray as soon as you remove the rollers and make sure you leave them in long enough to give you extra volume.
